Screen-Free Week May 2022

In celebration of screen-free week this May, some of our team have detailed what they do to relax and get away from their work laptop/computer after each working day. Businesses should encourage staff to take their lunch breaks and not work overtime regularly to avoid burnout and encourage wellbeing amongst the team. This is so important to have a refreshed, motivated team for the next working day.

Lucy Nixon, Information Security Consultant

“It may sound old-fashioned, but exercise and fresh air works for me as a way to ‘refresh’ after working at a screen all day. My dogs insist on proper walks at least twice a day. Also, gardening, weeds are pretty persistent too, and digging out brambles is a great way to clear the mind and the garden. But exercise inside works just as well: I like to pick up heavy weights and then put them down again—because it’s hard to think about anything else while you’re doing that.”

Kevin Else, Director

“My none screen time normally involves spending time with my wife and our 2-year-old Golden Retriever “Ellie”, as she is normally pleased to see me when I come down from my attic office, but like all golden retrievers she is possibly just hoping for food!!”

“At other times, after stepping away from the screen, I listen to almost any music, but mainly 70s to 90s. Depending on my mood I have play lists for when I’m annoyed (Heavy rock), reflective (acoustic rock/rock ballads) or when I just need cheering up (70 & 80s pop).”

Lynne Mowles, Office Manager

“I normally take a break with a good cuppa and snuggles with my little cat, Sparky. Or, I will go for a walk in the local park with my mum on my lunch break when working from home. I also enjoy cooking a homemade family meal with home grown ingredients after a long day in front of my screens.”

Robert Briggs, Director

“It is far too easy to stay in front of the computer all day, particularly when working from home. Whilst commuting can be a pain, it often gives you time to ‘put work to one side’. To unwind after a day of online meetings and working from my home office, I like to either play some tennis or golf in the evenings. I may even go watch the greatest football in the world (I’m not saying who).”

Kyle Priestley, Technical Consultant

“When it comes to stepping away from any screen and relaxing, I often find myself listening to a good audio book in a dark room to zone out. The room helps to paint a clear picture in my mind, of what the characters are doing and would look like, with what I would imagine the word and areas that the story takes place in. During the mornings, I like to go to my gym for a swim and step into the sauna to help wake me up and set the tone for the day. One of my favourite things to do during the day is driving, often to a different town/city and walking around, seeing what the place has to offer. Usually this ends in me enjoying some food at a local café or restaurant.”

Natteleigh Sydney-Smith, Marketing Manager

“After working from a screen all day, I like to go to the gym, listen to music or have my friends round my house and cook for them, my speciality is a creamy prawn and chorizo pasta dish! I also dog sit when working from home for a friend and go on dog walks during my lunch breaks.”

So, that’s what some of our team do to get away from their screens after a hard-working day in celebration of Screen-free week 2022. What does your team do?
