Our Marketing intern, Sita Toure, takes a look back at her internship with us here at CSP.
I joined Cyber Security Partners in August as a marketing intern. I was very curious to learn more about cyber security as I had never been exposed to this industry before. At the same time, I was excited to gain valuable work experience for my future career.
What I have learnt
Now that I am towards the end of my internship, I can confidently say that this has benefited my personal and professional development. I was able to improve my professional communication by reporting tasks and findings back to my manager every week, and I was also able to observe my colleagues’ communication styles in a business environment. Moreover, during my time at CSP, I have also had the opportunity to attend team meetings where we discussed new ideas, areas of improvement for the business, and updates of everyone’s activity. Not to mention the constant training and support I received from all the members of team CSP. This made me realise what it meant to have a good and supportive company culture, which I will be looking for in future job roles.
About the internship
Most importantly, I had the opportunity to develop my marketing skills set, which mainly focused in these main areas: research, graphic design, copywriting, performance reporting, content and event planning. I understood how to successfully develop marketing strategies for B2B companies to reach targeted audiences both on social media platforms and organic search. Whenever I was performing a task, I was also explained the reasoning behind them and why they were performed in a certain way. Some of the new software I learned to use were: Mailchimp for email campaigns, WordPress for website development, Canva for graphic design and Moz for Keywords analysis.
A considerable part of my experience has revolved around event planning and event marketing, in preparation for the Leeds Digital Festival. I got hands-on experience in writing press releases, publishing LinkedIn posts, designing infographics and graphics for events, and being front of house at events by setting up the venue and greeting attendees. LDF has been a great way to network and receive up to date training from leading professionals in the marketing field. As well as, extending my knowledge on cyber security from understanding the types of cyber-attacks, the risks associated with not complying with cyber security measures and how you can prevent them from happening.
To conclude
I would like to thank everyone for this amazing opportunity and for welcoming me into the team. I would recommend to anyone to do an internship within a field you want to get into in the future, to ensure you have the foundations and knowledge to get you to your end goal.
